Chinatowns in North America In general, there are three types of Chinatowns in North America: frontier and rural Chinatowns, urban Chinatowns, and suburban Chinatowns. People speak various Chinese dialects and other Asian languages (e.g., Vietnamese or Thai), often have very little common ground with each other, have conflicting political views as well as those that are apolitical, and they are shaped by different life experiences from one another.
